A battlefield off the radar of political associations

The ninth constituency in the Northern Governorate, which includes the blocks 1210, 1209, 1207 and 1205 of Hamad town, does not appear to be the focus of the political societies in the upcoming parliamentary elections, quite similar to last elections.

During the last elections, no political associations fielded their candidates while supporting the independents from behind the curtains. So far, five candidates have announced their candidature including incumbent MP Abdul Hamid Alnajjar and former MP Yusuf Zainal.

Both competed in 2014, where Mr Alnajjar managed to win after he moved to a second round with candidate Hassan Alalawi, while Mr Zainal emerged from the first round after receiving 20 per cent of the votes.

The former candidate Hasan Alalawi has not yet announced his intention to run for the elections from the constituency, while Abdullah Tarar is ready for a re-run.

There are also reports about former candidate Ahmed Alqaheri entering the battlefield.
