Shock to expat communities as one more commits suicide
Expatriates in the Kingdom have been left shellshocked as yet another case of suicide was reported yesterday. The number of suicide cases among expatriates this year has edged close to 30. Indian national Nizamol Kannankara Nizar was found dead in her apartment in Gudaibiya.
According to sources she ended her life by hanging. “She was found hanging in the morning. Everyone at her place went to sleep as usual and after the roommates woke up in the morning they found her dead. Her body looked like it was a bit stretched of because of the long hours hanging” the source said.
The body was transferred to Salmaniya Medical Center (SMC) morgue and police vehicles and an ambulance were seen at her residence yesterday. No official confirmation has come as the Ministry of Interior is yet to issue a statement on the death, however, Tribune learnt that an investigation has been launched.
According to the information on the Labour Market Regulatory Authority website, the deceased worked as an accountant at ‘Garaif for Demolition’. However sources told Tribune that she was a free visa worker at a school. “The information on the LMRA website does not reflect her actual occupation because she is a free visa worker.
She used to work at a bar and that is where many people know her, recently she switched her job to work at a school” “People knew her as a bold and courageous person. She was intent on improving her situation by leaving the job at a restaurant and choosing to work at a school.”
