BD138m expansion work kicks off at Tubli Plant

Tubli Wastewater Treatment Plant is undergoing a BD138 million expansion work, according to Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry sources.

Speaking to Tribune, Ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Sanitation Asma Murad said that there are no plans to relocate the plant from Tubli and efforts are on to minimise the negative effects on the environment. “The Phase IV work to expand the capacity of the plant is on. The work aims to double the capacity from 200,000 to 400,000 cubic meters per day.

The contract to carry out the work was signed after the tender was awarded by the Tender and Auction Board to WTI Tecton Azmil. The project, which will be completed in a space of ten years, includes construction works worth BD 77.8m while the operation and maintenance works are expected to cost BD60m.

Ms Murad said the work will also focus on maintaining all outdated facilities at the plant. “The work includes maintaining concrete structures for ventilation basins, which are necessary to ensure the sustainability of existing plant facilities and to avoid any deterioration that might occur to concrete installations, which could lead to an environmental problem.
