Two Michelin Star Chef Giancarlo Perbellini aims at elevating the level of Italian food in Bahrain but providing the perfect balance of traditional and modernity with the finesse of restaurant quality food as well as authentic household recipes all in one menu. “The menu is inspired by recipes from the south, central and north Italy.

It includes traditional dishes with a modern touch. Our menu includes dishes you’d find in an Italian household as well as restaurant quality food,” said Chef Perbellini. “I’ve been here for five days and I’ve been busy because the kitchen, as well as the team, is new, we are all teaching and learning,” he added.

The new outlet will be his first in the Middle East, expanding his portfolio of restaurants in Italy, the United States and Hong Kong, which includes the 2 Michelin Star Casa Perbellini in Verona, the 1 Michelin star Dopolavoro in Venice the popular Locanda restaurant in Kowloon and the Rana in New York. La Pergola made history by becoming the first Italian restaurant to lay the foundation in Bahrain, paving the path for one of the most sought-after cuisines in the kingdom today. “La Pergola was one of the first Italian restaurants on the island; therefore it has recognized and has made history.

We have welcomed an array of customers’ overtime. I have come across customers who told me that the used to come with their parents to eat at our restaurant. We wanted to go to the next level since we were the first to introduce the Italian cuisine in this market we wanted to be the first to introduce the Italian Cuisine in the next level in the market,” said Charbel Hanna, Executive Assistant Manager at the Gulf Hotel.

“To have the best Italian restaurant we needed to provide the best food. We did our research and shortlisted Chef Perbellini after visiting his restaurants in Milan and Verona. Chef Perbellini’s reputation precedes him as he one of the top 10 chefs in Italy. You don’t receive a Michelin start unless you have a certain capability, a certain level of presenting food. Of course, this was a major factor in choosing Chef Perbellini to take our restaurant to the next level. He is very simple and humble; it’s not easy to find a celebrity chef with this attitude. He is willing to adapt his cuisine based on the market preferences. A genuine taste with a modern presentation to suit the current times,” he added.
