Drug seller awaits plea verdict

A Bahraini drug seller was sentenced to 10 years behind bars after he was caught trying to sell two heroin-stuffed cigarettes to an undercover officer for BD20.

The defendant was reportedly lured into selling the cigarettes by an undercover agent assigned to arrest him red-handed in a secret operation which was organized after the police received a tip-off.

According to court files, the pair met in a coffee shop located in Buri before the eyes of police officers who were waiting for the Bahraini man to hand over the drugs to the undercover officer. Moreover, police officers seized 13 heroine cigarettes from his home during an inspection.

His lawyer Zainab Sabt argued earlier that the drug quantity found in his possession was too low for him to be called a drug lord, affirming that her client had the drugs for consumption purposes only.

“He was not possessing any device used by drug dealers such as a digital scale and therefore he couldn’t be called a professional drug peddler. He was only consuming,” she said.
