Asians arrested for running fake prize money scam
Two Asian men fell into the police net after running a fake prize money scam, it is learned.
The defendants, aged 35 and 33, are said to have been contacting smartphone users through Viber application, informing them that they had won BD50,000 prize and they had to share with them their old debit card passwords to proceed with transferring their money.
The pair was arrested after a Bahraini man reported the scam to the police. The first defendant revealed that his co-defendant had offered him to use his phone number to launch the scam, and he paid him BD20 for each successful attempt. He revealed that he received BD60.
