Want to reduce stress?

Manama : Working too hard! Many call this now a trend, allowing life to be driven by stress. Sometimes it becomes so hard that it kills- that is an unfortunate trend. Researchers have often warned about this and its destructive results in the workplace. Studies also point out that as much as 60-90 per cent of illnesses are directly caused by or exacerbated by stress. So, to know how people in the kingdom are dealing with it, the Tribune sat down with Dr Hani Hassan who is a doctor of physical therapy (DPT) at ‘Physiorelax Physiotherapy Medical Center’.

He is specialized in the treatment and rehabilitation of the Spine and Lower extremities disorders such as low back pain, muscles spasms, pelvis and muscles imbalances, flat feet among others using the physio relaxing technique. When it comes to Bahrain, the most difficult challenge, according to him, is convincing patients to change or modify their lifestyles. Attending regular sessions of muscles treatment, relaxation and further encouraging sports activities and adjusting nutrition are crucial for relieving stress in a long-term.

Physio relaxing technique, according to Dr Hani Hassan, is an effective way of treating stress-related conditions. While patients’ attitude still remains as an unhealthy approach, the doctor, however, told Tribune that stress treatment is now getting better than ever especially with new advancements. “Physiotherapists are now revolutionizing the ways to deal with stress in the Kingdom,” Dr Hassan said explaining the various segments offered. Sports rehabilitation, Post Op and Trauma rehabilitation, Musculoskeletal and Neuro-rehabilitation, fitness, pilates, yoga and massage to sports athletes are some amongst the segments offered.

“What we noticed is that the journey of healing and recovery doesn’t depend on the skills and experience of the therapist alone. There are other numerous and important factors as well, such as the good communication skills, a quiet environment, privacy, luxury, modern equipment and tools as well.” “We built a centre to deal with all the elements from patient’s psychology to treatment and rehabilitation in all its luxuriousness with best staff and equipment. “At the centre, we focus on treating the source of the stress which causes body and muscles disorders such as tension headache, which is often caused by a bad posture, lifestyle habits and tight neck muscles.”

Recovery, Dr Hassan said, is made possible by treating the muscles and joints and by strengthening the weak muscles. “Most of the well-informed therapists know that manual technique and sport are the best way to beat body ache and stress-related headaches,” he pointed out. The doctor, however, warned that stress has become the disease of the modern era. “It causes all sort of problems from heart attacks, immunity distress, headaches and in some case sudden death.” Lifestyle factors such as food, work-related stress, obesity and less sedentary lifestyle are the leading factors, he told Tribune.
