Asian housemaid ‘sold to prostitution ring for BD400’
An Asian maid ran away from her sponsor for a better opportunity, but fell prey to a human trafficking and prostitution racket, the court heard.
The victim was allegedly sold for an amount of BD400 to a prostitution ring, which forced her into having sex with strangers at a flat. She was trapped by the ring after another maid seduced her to flee from her sponsor for a better employment opportunity, according to sources.
The victim was eventually saved by police officers. “I arrived in Bahrain to work as a domestic servant with a local family. But during my tenure, I got acquainted with another maid who was serving the same family. “She told me that working on an hourly basis at different homes would pay me better, therefore, I was lured into running away,” the woman told prosecutors after she was rescued by police officers.
“The maid took me to a flat and she told me that she would return after finishing her work. However, I saw a big man there and he forced me to have sex with him. I rejected but he told me that he had bought me for BD400 from the woman and another man,” she added.
