Bahrain among countries with lowest homicide rate
Bahrain is among the countries witnessing the least number of homicides, although one of the worst in the region for suicides, it was learned.
The Kingdom faces the least number of cases of homicides, according to data obtained by Tribune. This puts Bahrain among countries such as Switzerland, Norway, and Slovenia that also has a low rate of suicides. According to the data, the homicide rate per 100,000 people in Bahrain is 0.5, which is one of the lowest in the world. Only a handful of countries have the homicide rates at 0.5 or lower.
Norway, Switzerland, Brunei share a similar status with Bahrain with a 0.5 homicide rate. The rate is lower for Qatar (0.4) and 0.3 in Iceland, Singapore, Japan, and Hong Kong. Bahrain’s rate of 0.5 compares favorably to most developed nations such as the UK and Germany which both has a rate of 1.2 and the United States which has a rate of 5.4. Other GCC countries also have higher rates than Bahrain.
However, Bahrain has one of the highest suicide rates in the Gulf region with a rate of 2.9 per 100,000 people among females and 9.5 among males. In the United Arab Emirates, the rate is lower at only 0.9 among females and 3.6 among males, Saudi Arabia is 2.2 and 5.5 for females and males respectively, Oman is 1.3 and 6.4.
