BIC set to welcome landmark season
The Bahrain International Circuit is all set to welcome what is expected to be one of its busiest seasons ever. A wide range of sporting, as well as other events, are planned for the landmark 15th season, according to BIC officials. Speaking during a Press conference held yesterday BIC Commercial Director Sherif Al Mahdy revealed that major international championships and national racing series are planned for this year.
While announcing a packed calendar of international and national events, he said that the coming season is expected to be the busiest ever for BIC. During the press conference, he announced that the dates for the 2019 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix which is going to be held on 29, 30 and 31st of March.
“We have up to 400 events per year and some of the events may last many days and weeks. And we will have events going on simultaneously. “We have had many situations where we had different kinds of events being held simultaneously. Last November we had the IGN going on along with the national races. We were also having the drifting at the time apart from another event at the media center. Most weekends are very busy, so we try to utilize various parts of the BIC for the events. This year we are expecting busier weekdays as well,” he said.
“With the new calendar beginning on Friday on first Open Track activity, I am glad to say that we will have non-stop action until May next year. The Bahrain GT Festival in November and the 2019 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix will be the headliner events. “These activities fall under one of BIC’s major objectives as a world-renowned circuit, which is to provide a true and memorable motoring experience to the fans.” he pointed out.
BIC detailed their schedule in a statement released yesterday. “The BIC boasts a wide selection of adrenaline-pumping events to choose from, each of which offers its own unique thrill. Among these are the experiences that are available every day, namely the circuit-wide Open Tour, Arrive and Drive karting, Track Top Adventure and a visit to BIC’s Welcome Centre. “The experiences on the racing circuit includes the highly popular Open Track, the first of which takes place as a night event on Friday from 4pm until midnight.
Open Track gives motorsport lovers a chance to bring their very own cars or motorbikes and take them around for a non-competitive drive or ride around the BIC track. There will also be an all-ladies Open Track event this season for the first time.
