Terror suspects gets 10, 15 years in jail

Manama : The fourth High Criminal Court yesterday sentenced two terror suspects to 10 and 15 years in jail, said Chief Prosecutor at the Terror Crimes Prosecution, Mishal Al-Mannai. The defendants were found guilty of joining a terrorist group and funding it. The first defendant was handed down 15 years in prison, while his co-defendant was given 10 years in prison. The latter is fugitive and is said to have given the first defendant more than BD20,000 to finance terrorist activities in the Kingdom. The first defendant landed in the police net following a tip-off.

According to the case files, the second suspect recruited the first suspect to join the so-called Al-Wafa Islamic Party. His role was exposed after travelling to Iran to meet the second defendant after he was recruited by him. “I travelled to Iran after the second defendant got in touch with me through Telegram and he convinced me to join Al Wafa Islamic Society.”

“It was a fully-paid trip. After returning, I received several orders to collect money hidden in different places. I was asked to put them at other places,” the first defendant said. He said: “On some occasions, amounts ranged between BD2000 and BD2200. I received more than BD20,000”. The pair were held guilty of joining a terrorist organisation.
