Darwish is back with ‘Titanlord of Death & Sacrifice’
Manama : Mohammed G. Darwish popularly known as M.G Darwish, an Award-nominated author who writes dark, twisted and action-packed fiction, is launching his second novel ‘Titanlord of Death & Sacrifice’. Best known for his Secret of the Moonlight, which was featured on Wattpad, Darwish is known for his passion for stories and creating characters that go beyond human imagination. Tribune caught up with Darwish to know more about his works and his journey as a writer. Excerpts:
How did your writing journey began?
My fascination with writing began at an early age. When I was about 9 years old, I started thinking about different ways my favourite movies or books could have ended. Asking lots of ‘what if this happened instead?’ which ultimately becomes a critical characteristic of every writer. Eventually, I started writing a story about a guy who gets sent to Mars and discovers that it is crawling with life. That was generally, how I began my writing journey.
About your debut work?
Later, life took its course and I focused on running a blog more than writing books and stories as I continued my studies at Bahrain Polytechnic. However, it wasn’t until 2011 the concept of Dragon Tooth, my debut novel materialized in my head, and it wasn’t until 2016 that it was officially published on Amazon and all major online retailers including local coffee shops and Jashanmall.
From there on, I went on to publish about 6 short stories, the majority of which were nominated for multiple awards like Writers of the Future 2015, Writers of the Future 2016, most notably “Secret of the Moonlight” that was featured on Wattpad and nominated for about 5 different awards including a “Best Story Award” from NY Literary Magazine.” Having just recently published my second novel ‘Titanlord: of Death & Sacrifice’ on Amazon, which is coming soon to Jashanmall and has been widely successful, is debuting at #153 on Amazon’s best selling categories. I’ve already begun working on the sequel which is expected to come out late next year.
Tell us more about the ‘Titanlord.
Titanlord is a dark fantasy, combining Greek mythology with a hint of Japanese culture. It takes place after the Magmars rose in rebellion against the Titans who ruled over the world of men. Hundreds of years later, the Titans were forgotten.
Vendel is a spunky, impulsive dreamer, whose fierce curiosity always seems to get the best of her as she dreams of meeting the Red Hand, a legendary warrior from her village, but considered a traitor to the crown after she led an open rebellion. She gets expelled from her village for bad mouthing a famous Knight when he visits trying to duel their best and sets off to the Citadel along with the First Sword of her village; a title bestowed upon the most skilful, and her good friend Griffyn.
‘Titanlord’ will no doubt take the reader for one hell of a read, as they go on visiting towns, forts and camps while uncovering a threat not only to their village but the entire human race. In their quest to save humanity, they uncover secrets that trace back to none other than the Titans themselves.”
What makes the book special to you?
This book is very special to me. The idea came to fruition after almost losing an online game. The idea then just stuck and it was begging to be written, and all a writer can do is oblige.
The challenges you faced as a writer?
One of the biggest hurdles to overcome when it comes to young writers is simply a lack of information and support. There are so many options to publish either traditionally which is through an agent or self-publishing the book yourself through KDP (Kindle Direct Programme).
The latter allows the writer to publish the book without spending a dime, but that process still requires a bit of research. It’s important for them to know that they aren’t alone and that we are slowly building a society that embraces them and guides them through the entire process. They need to just believe in themselves and hammer the words in; hard work, persistence, and perseverance are better friends than inspiration and motivation.
Future works?
I’m also in the final editing phases of ‘Fortier: The Long Night’ another novel coming out in early 2019. I’ve made a personal goal to try and publish at least one novel per year as well as a few short stories while continuously working to provide online resources and information to help aspiring authors everywhere realize their dream of one day seeing their books on bookshelves around the world. It’s important for them to know that they are not alone. We are here to help. I am here to help.
