Hearing date set for Bahraini accused of sheltering fugitive
A Bahraini man has landed in police net for hiding a fugitive who was sentenced in several security cases.
The fugitive, a relative of the accused, had been handed down a total of 16 years in prison for the crimes he committed.
But his brother-in-law provided him shelter to avoid arrest, according to court details. The fugitive was arrested after the police received a tip-off on the man being sheltered in his relative’s apartment in Samaheej area. The accused allegedly gave the fugitive food and offered other facilities.
When a team of police went to arrest, the accused was hiding under a cot, according to court details, and the accused initially denied that he was giving shelter to the fugitive. “I was wanted in several criminal cases and my grandfather offered me a shelter to hide.
My grandmother and aunt was living in the same apartment and my mother was visiting me once a week,” the arrested fugitive told police officers.
“I lived there for one year. In between, my grandfather passed away and my aunt got married. Both my aunt and uncle were unaware that I was hiding in the apartment,” he added. The accused faces trial and the High Criminal Court will hear the case on October 7, 2018.
