Closing arguments set in imam murder case

The closing arguments in imam murder trial will be heard on October 8, 2018, it is learnt. A Bangladeshi suspect along with a co-defendant is facing trial in the case. The defendant earlier admitted to murdering imam Abduljaleel Hamood before the High Criminal Court.

The prosecution report showed that he killed the Bahraini imam by hitting him with an iron bar before cutting the body into pieces and dumping it in plastic bags near the scrapyard in Askar.

The co-defendant pleaded not guilty in the case stating that he wasn’t aware of the main suspect’s intention to murder the imam.

According to sources, the suspect, a muezzin (prayer caller) at the same mosque in Muharraq, where the imam worked, was trading in free visas and the imam had warned him against doing the illegal act. “He killed in an act of revenge after the imam reported the suspect’s free visa trade to the Justice Ministry,” sources had told Tribune.
