Promises only on paper, Fish vendors and residents upset over delay in revamp work at Jidhafs Central Market

Fish vendors at Jidhafs Central Market in the Capital Governorate continue to demand the authorities to fulfill promises and allocate new selling points for them within the market.

A group of vendors said the Capital General Secretariat had repeatedly pledged to revamp the market apart from allocating areas for selling fish within the market.

The vendors claimed that the secretariat has been delaying the revamp work for a long time now. The work was supposed to begin this week, but as of now there are no signs, sources within the market said. Many customers and visitors to the market have been complaining about stalls blocking the road.

“The stalls maintained by fish vendors were initially located within the borders of the outdoor market. But, with growing demand to buy fish and increase in local population, vendors began setting up stalls at the entrance and on the road, disturbing the traffic flow,” sources pointed out.
