Arson accused acquitted after mental health report

The High Appeals Court yesterday acquitted a Bahraini man of arson apart from attempting to murder Sitra Post Office security guard after a psychiatric report showed that he wasn’t mentally stable.

The details of the case go back to 2014 when 50 rioters staged a protest near the Sitra Post Office in an effort to disturb law and order.

They are said to have attacked the post office with firebombers and the security officer’s cabin caught fire and he suffered burn wounds.

The saboteurs allegedly also pelted Molotov cocktails at the police officers who arrived at the scene to defend the office. The accused was one of the suspects identified by the detectives who investigated the case.
