New regulatory regime on way for gas carriers

New regulations are on the anvil to make LPG carriers in the Kingdom better and safer. Authorities will soon come up with a new improved design for trucks transporting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders in the Kingdom. To this end, the Directorate of Standards and Metrology at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism is preparing a draft technical regulation. This mandatory national technical standard will ensure that all measures are being taken to ensure safety while transporting cylinders in residential areas.

This was revealed as the Minister of Industry, Commerce & Tourism Zayed bin Rashid Alzayani chaired a meeting to implement the recommendations of the 51st meeting of the National Committee for Standardization and Metrology to adopt mandatory technical requirements for gas cylinders’ transport vehicles. The Director of Standardization & Metrology Mona Alalawi said that an awareness campaign will be held to introduce the new requirements after completing the draft regulations. “This will help to implement the regulations smoothly,” she said adding that an appropriate transition period will be given to the concerned commercial sector to adjust in accordance with the requirements.
