Prosecution witnesses to testify in traffic graft case

Seven prosecution witnesses will take the stand before the High Criminal Court on October 15, 2018, to give evidence in the trial of a traffic officer accused of manipulating receipts in order to embezzle money. The 24-year-old man was serving as a cashier in the General Directorate of Traffic.

He is said to have been changing the serial number of the receipts to pocket money. The defendant was reported to the Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security by his colleagues who discovered the corrupt act. Investigations found that the defendant forged 37 receipts, from which he pocketed BD225, according to court files.

However, the defendant denied committing any wrongdoing, stating that sometimes he was leaving office early and his colleagues would print receipts using his computer.
