Court orders treatment, not prison for drug addicts
n a rare move, the Lower Criminal Court decided to admit two defendants to a clinic instead of putting them in jail after holding them guilty of consuming drugs. The duo is said to have become drug-addicts after suffering from a disease, which allegedly prompted them to break the law.
The court described them as prey of the disease rather than offenders, and hence it ordered treatment for them to overcome drugs addiction. The defendants are said to have been caught in the Northern Governorate in possession of hashish.
