Inspect labour camps
The Cabinet chaired by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa yesterday gave directives to Labour and Social Development Ministry to cooperate with the Interior Ministry and Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning to conduct frequent inspections to all labour accommodation facilities in the Kingdom to ensure the safety of labourers. As per the directive, strict legal action will be taken against those responsible for providing substandard accommodation facilities to the labourers across the Kingdom. The directive follows the building collapse in the Salmaniya area last Tuesday, leaving four dead and more than 30 injured.
The building, which was home to over 170 labourers, collapsed following a gas cylinder blast. HRH the Premier reviewed the steps taken by the ministries of Labour and Social Development, the Interior, Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning and Health after the disaster. He commended the efforts exerted by the various directorates of the Ministry of Interior, particularly the Civil Defence, as well as those of the relevant ministries, to deal with the incident.
Among other things, the session welcomed Bahrain’s election as a member of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), expressing pride in the International Community’s confidence in Bahrain.
