Qatar bid to meddle in polls?

Apart from cyber attacks and alleged support to different terror groups in the Kingdom, Qatari regime is also attempting to meddle in the Kingdom’s poll process, it was revealed.

Advocate General Dr. Ahmed Al Hammadi yesterday said the Public Prosecution has launched an investigation into a notification by the Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) about two Bahraini nationals who received money from abroad without authorisation from the competent authority, in breach of the law.

The two nationals received money from former Qatari minister Abdullah bin Khalid Al Thani through their bank accounts as well as intermittently going to Qatar to receive the amount in cash.

Investigations showed that one of the two nationals received from the Qatari ex-minister sums of money to run for the parliamentary elections next month and to support his electoral campaign.

Intensive investigation into the suspects’ relation with the Qatari official revealed that the purpose of funding the electoral campaign of one of the suspects was to undermine the Kingdom’s national interests by interfering in its internal affairs. “The intention would have been to influence the work of legislative institutions in the Kingdom to serve its antagonistic goals.”
