82pc of work on Alba-Nuwaidrat intersection project completed

The Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry recently revealed the latest update on the progress of work on Alba-Nuwaidrat intersection. The ministry confirmed that 82 percent of the project has been completed, with the help of 900 workers, and that the opening of the first stage of the project has contributed to the reduction of traffic jams on the busy junction. Roads Affairs Assistant Undersecretary Huda Abdulla Fakhro said in a statement that the ministry completed five million working hours on the project with zero worksite injuries since August 2015.

“This proves the strict procedures followed by the safety affairs department in the ministry,” Ms. Fakhro said. Ms. Fakhro said in the statement: “The ministry is keen to introduce the occupational health and safety requirements at the worksites. The project workers number crossed 900.

“The project contractors (Kuwait KCC and Nass Company of Bahrain) took all precautionary measures and applied safety standards during the period of implementation of the work in coordination and supervision of the engineers of the ministry. “We hope to adhere to them until the end of the project while ensuring the safety of road users and workers working on the same project.” She explained that the opening of the first phase of the project on August 31 this year was a challenging task, as the project is considered one of the biggest strategic road development projects being implemented in Bahrain.

The first phase included linking Shaikh Jaber Al Ahmed Al Sabah Highway with King Hamad Highway going south. On the eastern and western routes, the flyover above Nuwaidrat intersection was also opened, to ensure smooth flow of traffic on one of the busiest roads in the Kingdom, with over 100,000 vehicles crossing it on a daily basis.
