Co-operation ‘key to solve issues faced by the region’

A collaborative effort was stressed to rebuild the region adversely affected by ongoing conflicts. Speaking at the plenary session, Dr John Chipman, Director-General and CEO of IISS, said, “Maximum efforts are needed for stabilizing Yemen, Libya, Syria and Iraq. An enormous amount of external aid is necessary to rebuild these broken societies.”

Echoing a similar view, Taro Kono, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Japan, said, “It is an honor be back at the Manama Dialogue. This year, I am here to emphasize our support for the reforms and modernization currently underway across the Middle East as I believe, reforms are the basis of the future in the Middle East.

“Countries in the region are striving to overcome both ongoing challenges including the alleviation of fiscal dependency on oil revenues, the creation of sufficient and decent job opportunities for the growing youth population. These counties have made important progress and paved the way for reform for future generations, where we can’t let their efforts fail.
