Dialogue ends, peace thoughts linger on

This year’s edition of the IISS Manama Dialogue was the largest that has ever been held, according to organizers. Manama Dialogue came to a close yesterday after three days of top-level discussions by government and defense officials from around the world. Organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), The Manama Dialogue Summit was launched on Friday.

Dr. John Chipman, IISS Director-General and Chief Executive revealed, this year’s edition which is the 14th, was the largest edition in terms of a number of delegates attended. Speaking to Tribune on the sidelines of the event, Sir Tom Beckett, Executive Director at IISS Middle–Easts explained his key take-aways from the sessions.

“The dialogue has multiple purposes, one: It raises understanding of the security issues that are facing the region. Two: It brings in high-level policy makers to listen to those listen to those issues and raise their understanding. Three: It puts them in one place at the same time where they can talk to each other and hopefully find some solutions to it.
