Bombing cell members sentenced

Seven defendants who were part of a bombing cell have received sentences between 13 and 35 years. They were also fined amounts between BD500 and BD1,000.

While five defendants are in police custody, the remaining two are in Iran. According to court data, the defendants in Iran were issuing orders to terror cell members in the Kingdom to carry out bombings. A team of police dismantled the cell after receiving information, which revealed that the two fugitives in Iran had recruited several terrorists to target police officers and their patrols.

The five are said to have planted several improvised explosives on roads used by police patrols. Police investigations identified the five and arrested them. The third defendant is said to have guided police officers to a place, where metal balls, nails, white powder, and paste; items that are known to be used in making improvised bombs, were stored.
