Going the green mile
Bahrain is on track to use electric cars and increase their spread on the streets, said Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr Abdulhussain Mirza.
The minister, while identifying electric cars as the inevitable future of mobility across the world, also revealed that the Gulf Standardisation Organisation (GSO) has prepared GCC technical specifications and regulations for electric vehicles to be added to the Gulf conformity certification system which will be ready for implementation by 2022.
Electric cars, Dr Mirza said, have many advantages that make it a promising future option citing the many advantages to the environment including reduced noise pollution. In this regard, the minister thanked Bahrain’s leadership and the government for promoting clean energy and seeking to improve energy efficiency.
Arrangements for the opening of the first pilot station for the shipment of electric vehicles and the possible sites to set up new power stations in coordination with government agencies were also reviewed.
