Man gets 15 years for killing his friend
An Asian man who killed his friend by running over him with a car was sentenced to 15 years behind bars. The incident happened on 8 February 2018 was initially believed to be a hit-and-run case. Investigators later found that the man deliberately ran over the victim who was riding a motorcycle.
The suspect was detained for 24 hours after the accident but was released as the victim wasn’t able to speak. Police officers suspected a criminal motive, although the defendant claimed that he fled the scene because he wasn’t accustomed to dealing with such situations.
Later a victim’s colleagues and an eyewitness confirmed that the crash was deliberate. One of the victim’s workmates revealed that the defendant once came to their workplace and threatened he would murder him. When arrested again, the 32-year-old man said that he had just known that the victim was his friend. The victim died one week after the incident and doctors confirmed that the injuries were owing to a predetermined hit.
It was later discovered that the defendant didn’t just crashed the victim with his car, but reversed over his body to make sure of his death. Explaining why he wasn’t given a harsher punishment, the High Criminal Court stated that the defendant was under the influence of drugs at the time, therefore the murder wasn’t premeditated. The court stated that the defendant had wanted to hurt the victim, excluding his intention of murder.
