Distribution of plots at major housing project delayed after ‘landslide’ at site
The hand over of land at a major housing project in Muharraq Governorate has been delayed for over three months because of a landslide at the site, it has been revealed.
Beneficiaries of the new East Hidd Housing Project were apparently supposed to receive their lands in July, but no land has been handed over so far, it is learned. Sources in the Housing Ministry told Tribune that the infrastructure works were completed at Bushaheen neighborhood in the project, which is being implemented on a land reclaimed from the sea. “The hand over has been postponed by the ministry for safety and security reasons,” the sources said.
This comes shortly after Housing Minister Bassem Alhamer announced that the ministry would hand over the lands to 496 beneficiaries of the project. The minister had explained that they were all connected with infrastructure and basic services and that citizens could immediately commence the construction of their units.
The minister said that “in line with the directives of the Prime Minister His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Housing Services Directorate in the ministry was instructed to arrange for the timely handover of lands and units to citizens”.
