Sports can ‘resolve conflicts’ across the world
HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee, has stressed that sport is an important factor in resolving conflicts.
He pointed out that the Kingdom has become an effective model for mobilizing the society towards sports so its members abandon thinking about all other issues such as politics, disputes, given the fact that sport is a solution to resolve conflicts. “We have achieved many accomplishments in the area of sports in the past period thanks to this approach,” he explained, adding: “Some people exploit extremism in thinking and negatively take advantage of youth energies in order to destroy peace. But as officials, we always strive to make sports a tool for peace and bolstering bonds. And this is important to mobilize youth towards sports.”
This came during HH Shaikh Nasser’s participation as a leading panelist in the first session of the World Youth Forum (WYF) in the presence of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Hisham Al Jowder, Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs and Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Ambassador to Egypt. Participating alongside HH Shaikh Nasser were a group of leaders from various Arab and African countries.
