Britons excel in Shine Bahrain
Second seed Mathew Rutter of UK proved too hot for Rik Muller of Nederland, defeating him 6-1, 6-2 in the final game of the 1st Shine Bahrain Super Series ITF Junior Championship, held at Bahrain Tennis Federation premises in Isa Town. Rutter was the second favourite to win the championship, behind Saud Al Haqbani of Saudi Arabia.
However, Muller knocked out Al Haqbani, before being outclassed by his British counterpart in a one-sided match. In the women’s singles, meanwhile, top -favourite Charlotte Russel of UK lived up to her ranking, winning the final match against French Lou Baudouin 6-0, 6-4.
The winners were crowned by Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, President of the High Organising Committee of the event, Deputy President of Bahrain Tennis Federation. Commenting after the event, Shaikh Abdulaziz expressed his utmost and appreciation to all the High Organising Committee members for their efforts which have contributed to making this Championship a great success.
He praised the organizational level of the event, stating that success in organising the event shows Bahrain’s capabilities in hosting major sports championships. Moreover, he hailed the performances displayed.
