Isa Town Traditional Market, Muharraq Traditional Market to get makeover

Manama

With a view to giving face-lift to traditional markets, Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa issued directives to provide facilities for the Isa Town Traditional Market and the Muharraq Traditional Market yesterday.

Chairing the weekly cabinet session, which was also attended by HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, at the Gudaibiya Palace, HRH Premier ordered to provide the Isa Town Traditional Market with some facilities and services to serve its merchants and customers. The Ministerial Committee for Urbanisation and Infrastructure had been instructed to conduct the necessary studies in collaboration with the relevant sides.

The same committee had also been told to follow-up the implementation of a multi-storey car park at the Muharraq Traditional Market and the provision of more services and facilities for the Souk traders and shoppers.

The Prime Minister was informed about the measures taken so far regarding the establishment of a new central market. He issued directives to expedite its implementation and requested the Ministerial Committee to study ways to remove all obstacles delaying the project.

Meanwhile, the cabinet also approved a proposal from the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) regarding the stimulation of production at the Bahrain field with its partners in a manner that is consistent with the size of the development achieved in the investment in the oil infrastructure. The proposal was included in a memorandum presented by the Energy Minister.

The cabinet discussed four proposals submitted by the Council of Representatives. They include the implementation of a housing project in the Green Belt area, east of the current project in Block 241 in Arad, and the allocation of a land lot to establish a complex for social services in the Muharraq’s eighth constituency.

They also include the construction of an intermediate girls’ school in Budaiya, and the allocation of land to build an auditorium for the citizens of the Southern Governorate’s fifth constituency.
