Bahrain marks World Antibiotic Awareness Week

The national strategy for combating antibiotic-resistant microbes was launched yesterday.

This came as Supreme Council for Health (SCH) President Lieutenant-General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa patronized an event held to devise the strategies. Health Minister Faeqa Al Saleh, National Health Regulatory Authority(NHRA) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mariam Al Jalahma, undersecretaries and senior officials attended.

The ceremony, which was held at Awal Ballroom at the Gulf Hotel, marked the World Antibiotic Awareness Week a global event aimed at raising awareness of antibiotic resistance among members of the public, professionals and political decision makers across the globe.

Lt Gen Dr. Shaikh Mohammed commended the efforts of the team which contributed to launching the strategy, which aims to reduce the use of antibiotics. Ms. Al Saleh addressed the ceremony, describing the issue of antibiotic resistance as a big challenge for Bahrain and other countries in the world. She commended the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) medical team which conducted the required assessment and came out with recommendations.
