Rare honour for child psychologist

Prominent child psychologist Mariam Alammadi, who is also the founder of The Child Foundation Centre, has received the prestigious ‘Top 50 Smart Healthcare Leaders Award’. The awards committee, which rated each applicant on their impact and contribution to healthcare, decided the winners following an extensive assessment.

Speaking to Tribune, Ms Alammadi said, “The Child Foundation Center opened earlier this year and is a psychological centre that specialises in milestone development assessment, counselling, psychometric testing in the areas of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.” “It is important to break the stigma of the mental health.

Stigma causes individuals to feel embarrassed or ashamed for something that is out of their control. Stigma can also prevent people from seeking the psychological help they need to get better. “It is important that all of us working in the mental health feed ensure our voices are heard and continue to break the stigma.

The best methodology is to encourage equality between physical and mental illness. When society understand that mental illness is also a disease it causes better understanding and acceptance.” “The increase of mental health problems is a global problem. However, in Bahrain, there has been a huge increase in cyber-bullying. The method by which the younger generation communicates as completely changed. Social media has become their preferred tool for communicating, sharing and reading content.
