St Christopher’s Cathedral gears up for Christmas season

St Christopher’s Cathedral will host an event-packed Christmas season this year, according to church officials. It will begin on Sunday at 6.15 pm with the traditional ‘Nine Lessons and Carols’ inspired by the famous King’s College Cambridge Christmas Eve Service. “In Bahrain, it takes on its distinctive character with a choir from the Manama Singers, conducted by their musical director Jo Mings, but also a Swahili carol from the Cathedral’s East African community and a Tamil carol from the Cathedral’s Tamil-speaking congregation.”

Many dignitaries including British Ambassador Simon Martin head teachers from St Christopher’s School and the British School of Bahrain, Ian Fellows and Julie Anne Gilbert and the Chaplain of the Royal Navy Mark Mander are expected to attend the event. “It promises to be a very special service with wonderful music, the opportunity to sing familiar carols and community involvement,” said Dean Chris Butt.

“On Monday, December 24, Christmas Eve at 4.30 pm there is a choice of two services: at Awali Church there is a traditional Crib Service telling the Christmas story through readings and carols and putting the Nativity scene together by building the crib.
