In deep love with gold, burglars mostly targeting Indian families

Indian expat families in the Kingdom have, of late, become the biggest victims of burglary owing to the burglars’ increasing love towards gold. The recent victims include a prominent doctor as well as a Bahrain-based businessman. Sources say burglary mafia in the Kingdom has ties with many goldsmiths here, who convert ornaments into raw gold, in turn reducing the chances of getting arrested.

“Gold is the easiest good to sell in the burglary market. Once the stolen ornaments are turned into raw gold, no-one can catch these burglars, which is making gold their favourite item.”

In many cases, the investigating teams did not get any leads on the burglars while burglary kept on increasing in the last few months. A gang having Iranian members was recently arrested by a team of police for burgling many houses. According to the Director-General of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science, the arrested five-member gang consisted of two Iranians. They are accused of stealing jewellery, expensive watches and mobile phones from homes.

They have allegedly stolen items worth more than BD50,000. The Director-General said that three of the suspects acted like bicycling enthusiasts to spot their targeted homes, especially big villas, while the other two broke into these houses and burgled many items including gold.
