Jail sentence upheld in cop killing bid trial

The Highest Criminal Appeals Court has upheld the verdict against 15 defendants convicted of attempting to murder two police officers, possessing weapons apart from gathering unlawfully.

The incident that led to the case occurred in August 2013, when a group of rioters gathered in Diraz with an aim to attack and murder police officers. According to prosecutors, the rioters attacked police officers, who arrived to control the situation, with Molotov cocktails and other weapons.

“Two police officers got injured in the attack and they were rushed to the hospital,” the prosecutors added.
