‘Zero tolerance on’ VAT law violators
I n line with HM King Hamad’s directives, the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism Zayed Al Zayani, yesterday underscored the ministry’s commitment to reviewing the mechanisms of applying VAT during its trial period starting January 1, 2019. The minister said the ministry will not tolerate any non-compliance with the kingdom’s VAT law and its executive regulations.
In this regard, the minister highlighted the mechanisms that the ministry has implemented to increase consumer’s protection to prevent charging VAT on goods and services that are not subject to VAT. He highlighted the ministry’s Companies Control Directorate and Consumer Protection Directorate’s efforts in monitoring the performance of all commercial establishments.
Mr Al Zayani concluded by emphasising the importance of continuing to increase VAT procedural and legal framework awareness to ensure effective and seamless implementation of the VAT. Consumers are reminded that the National Bureau for Taxation (NBT) has introduced a hotline (80008001) dedicated to responding to inquiries and complaints. Furthermore, investors may also register their businesses by visiting NBT’s website (www.nbt.gov.bh).
