Man attacks motorist with iron rod in Riffa

An Asian national was arrested over an attack with an iron bar on a motorist, after a video of the incident went viral on social media platforms. Interior Ministry, quoting officials from the southern governorate, confirmed the incident and stated that the man was arrested from the southern governorate. “An Asian man who was seen in a frantic state has been arrested,” a ministry statement said adding: “He attacked a minibus, driven by another Asian man, in Riffa and managed to broke the vehicle’s windows.”

The man, reportedly in his thirties, according to sources, was wielding an iron bar which he used as a weapon to attack others. The man, a south Asian by nationality, was yelling at another man who was apparently his compatriot and was driving a van. “He was yelling at the other man in Urdu or Hindi and was behaving frantically,” a source told Tribune. “Suddenly, he started hitting the van with the metal rod he was holding.” The source said the man also broke the windows of the van with the rod. However, no injuries were reported.

In another incident yesterday, a man who was riding a bicycle died after an accident in Mina Salman area. The victim is reportedly a 58-year-old Bahraini. The ministry confirmed the incident yesterday morning stating: “A bicycle rider died following a traffic accident on Sheikh Jaber Al-Sabah Street towards Manama in the Mina Salman Area. The concerned authorities are on the scene.” Separately, the Ministry on Tuesday confirmed that an accident on Al Fateh Highway near Marina beach led to the death of a 22-year-old man, reportedly an Arab national. 

In a similar incident, reported last week, a biker died after he was run over by a minibus. The man in his thirties died in an accident at Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Highway last Thursday. The mishap occurred when the biker  crashed against a parked car and ended up on the road where the minibus ran over him. The victim was reported to be a Bahraini.
