Identity theft: Bahraini Man gets 3 years in jail
The higher first Criminal Court has awarded a 3-year jail term to Bahraini man for using his brother’s identity card to exit Bahrain. According to court files, the man used his brother’s identity card to enter Saudi Arabia from Bahrain and from there to Emirates. Incidents leading to the case occurred when the man was caught by police for cheating on 14 December 2017.
He, however, managed to escape from custody, when admitted to Salmaniya Medical Complex for a medical checkup. According to police, the man escaped with the help of his blood brother. The suspect then managed to exit Bahrain through king Fahad Bridge by presenting his brother’s identity card and details.
The suspect after reaching Saudi then managed to enter Emirates using the same identity Card. The accused was arrested following a combined operation by Bahraini authority and its counterpart in Dubai. The court found: “He had entered false information in the system of the general administration for the passport by cheating the customs’ officer who helped him in good intention to pass King Fahad Bridge to Saudi Arabia.”
In issuing the verdict, the suspect, Court said, used identity card of another person to escape from Bahrain wrongfully.
