Sports village venues approved
The Organising Committee of the 2019 Bahrain Sports Day scheduled for February 12, has confirmed the venues for the mini sports villages located in different parts of the kingdom, it was announced yesterday. The third edition of the Sports Day is organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) and will this year feature sports village in each of the kingdom’s four governorates in an attempt to build upon last year’s edition success.
Held at the Regency Hotel in Manama, the second meeting of the organising committee was chaired by Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant secretary general and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) secretary general Abdulrahman Askar. The Northern Governorate will have a walkathon event at A’ali walkway in addition to some recreational games. Several medical centres, providing a number of health tests, will take place from early morning.
Muharraq Governorate will hold a football competition involving players aged 40 years and above, as well as running and tug-of-war contests at the club Muharraq. The Capital Governorate at Al Najma Club in cooperation with the Military Sports Federation will hold a walkathon near Al Fateh Corniche, as well as recreational activities at the club premises commencing early in the day. The Southern Governorate will hold several events at the Awali walkway.
Rashid Abdul Latif Al Zayani, a member of the Organising Committee, said the Bahrain International Circuit has agreed to host a cycling race as well as a marathon and a walkathon for women from 3 pm to 5 pm. On its part, the Shura and Parliament Councils are also to have their respective activities during the day, which include a 4km walkathon as well as other events like tug-of-war, table tennis and badminton.
