Bahraini gets jail for anti-electoral tweets
The Third Lower Criminal Court has sentenced a Bahraini man for posting comments on social media with an intention to disrupt the electoral process in the Kingdom.
He was handed down one-month imprisonment along with a fine of BD500. The court also ordered that the sentence can be replaced with social service. The man was charged after the Electronic Crimes Department of the Interior Ministry notified his posts on Twitter to the Public Prosecution.
According to Public Prosecution, the accused had asked the citizens of the Kingdom to boycott the recently-held parliament and municipal elections by not coming out of their houses to vote.
