Differently abled people need more support, says MP Al Dosseri
A Parliamentarian yesterday urged the government to offer people who were born mentally disabled a monthly salary to help their families. Tabling the request, MP Bader Al Dosseri, Deputy President of Foreign, Defence and National Security parliamentary committee, said such a step if implemented would allow them access to improved health treatment and enhances the chances of having them responding positively to rehabilitation programmes.
Supporting disabled people’s families, Al Dosseri said, is among the responsibilities of the government as well as the society, therefore, “they must be put into serious consideration in the employment opportunities in the public and private sectors.” He also urged to in - crease the scholarships allocated to differently abled people.
“Differently abled people represent an important segment of the society and they need to have easy access to all services provided by the government, including housing, where units must be designed in accordance to their needs,” Al Dosseri added. Al Dosseri praised the services provided by the various entities involved in helping differently abled people and empowering them.
