Leading expo to stress agriculture as an ideal career option for youth
The Kingdom will hold this year’s Bahrain International Garden Show (BIGS) at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre on February 20. To be held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and the President of Consultative Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) will inaugurate the event.
The details of the event were revealed yesterday at a press conference held by the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD). The Bahrain International Garden Show, is an initiative to contribute to the development and sustainability of the agricultural sector in the Kingdom, as well as to review of a range of agricultural products, solutions and innovations offered by major local and foreign companies that are participating in the event.
Speaking to Tribune, Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of NIAD said, “The exhibition deals annually with a different slogan that touches on our agricultural reality and requires us to work on developing systems and methods and finding solutions and alternatives that contribute to the improvement of the agricultural sector in the Kingdom. “Similarly, the exhibition will be held under the theme of ‘Agriculture as a promising career choice’ which will highlight the increasing demand for experts with specialised skills in the fields of agricultural technology and sustainable practices.
“Data and statistics related to the agricultural sector will be showcased during the event along with the results of the survey conducted by NIAD on public and private organisations, educational institutions will be displayed to find out about available agricultural jobs and requirements that will encourage the youth to be a part of this sector.”
BIGS 2019 will also feature two displays, of students from the United Arab Emirates University College of Food and Agriculture and Sultan Qaboos University of Agricultural and Marine Sciences Oman that will shed light on the potentials of the agricultural sector. Lalabella founder Nahla Al Mahmoud, in co-operation with NIAD will organise a two-day workshop on flower co-ordination by the London-based Judith Blacklock Flower School, Russian Floral Designer Dimitry Turcan and Kuwait based Lily Fleur flower School.
