Kingdom marks Sports Day

The Kingdom yesterday celebrated its National Sports Day in a spectacular style with packed programmes across the nation’s four governorates.

The celebrations aimed at promoting sports and health-enhancing physical activities and followed the directives of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, and supported by HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee President.

The Bahrain Olympic Committee led the country-wide initiative by holding sports activities at Manama Club Sports Hall, which boasts excellent facilities, including all-weather and grass playing fields. The two-hour programme was run by academy’s director Dr. Nabeel Taha, Saeed Al Aradi and executive co-ordinator Mahmood Yateem and senior coaching and development specialist Ali Qamber, who prepared a set of outdoor and indoor exercises for the committee’s staff.

Among the activities were badminton, basketball, walking race, balls throw, tennis and some mental and heritage contests, in addition to a dedicated section for measuring physical fitness and fat levels, height and weight.
