The College of Graduate Studies in the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) will participate in the 13th Gulf Water Conference, which is organised by the Water Sciences and Technology Association (WSTA) in Kuwait from March 12 to March 14, 2019.

Held under the patronage of the Kuwaiti Prime Minister Shaikh Jaber Al Mubarak Al Hamad Al Sabah, the conference is themed “Water in the GCC: Challenges and Innovative Solutions” and is jointly organised with the General Secretariat of GCC States. Water Resources Director in the College of Graduate Studies and Head of the Scientific Committee of the Conference Prof Waleed Zubari confirmed that AGU will participate with three scientific papers that will be discussed during the sessions of the conference.

The papers will highlight several topics related to water and its consumption in the Kingdom. The first paper will shed light on the effects of Al Dur Seawater Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plant on the environment and marine life.

It’s derived from a Master’s thesis presented by AGU student Anwaar Al Osaimi, under the supervision of Dr Thamer Al Dawood, Prof Zubari and Dr Humood Nasser. The second paper discusses energy consumption in the fields of municipal water (drinking and sanitation) in Bahrain.

It is a study conducted by Dr Maha Al Sabbagh, Mariam Helal, Rehab Mohsen and Prof Zubari. As for the third paper, it is a study prepared by Salah Al Mottawa, Siddiqa Al Jazeery, Mohammed Kamal, Dr Alaa Al Sadiq and Prof Zubari. The study explains the development of a system to measure the standards of reference management of sewage facilities in the Kingdom.

Prof Zubari announced that AGU will be represented in the conference by eight students and graduates from the College of Graduate Studies. He said researchers are also voluntarily partaking in the scientific committee of the conference to assist in the logistic works and enrich the water technologies and sciences content of the event.
