Husband jailed for stealing wife’s car

The High Criminal Court has held a Bahraini man guilty of fraud and forgery after he stole the car of his ‘secret-wife’, sentencing him to five years in prison. The defendant allegedly played with the emotions of the then-divorced woman, convincing her into getting married to him secretly after a few months of separating from her first husband.  The woman thought she finally found her true love, but her life went from bad to worse as she discovered that her new husband was only interested in her monthly income and savings, the prosecutors said. The victim said that she got married to the man without the approval of her family after they rejected his proposal, deeming him unfit.

He, however, brainwashed her as he made her bow to his suggestion of getting married secretly.   “He told me that the situation will last for one year, after which he will announce our marriage. He said that things will remain like this until we arrange our life,” the woman told prosecutors in her complaint. “I found that he was with me for only my money. Whenever I refuse to give him cash, he would beat and insult me. “I had enough from him and I later decided to leave him. However, he threatened to defame me and tell my friends and family that we were secretly married,” she added.

At one point, the woman believed that her life has returned to normalcy as the defendant left her, agreeing to her demand. Nevertheless, he returned to haunt her again by stealing her new car by forging its ownership documents.  “After I annulled my relationship with him, I rewarded myself by buying a new car. Life was normal until I dropped my car at the service centre. “I was shocked to learn that someone collected the car after presenting the necessary documents that he was the owner of the car,” she said. And it turned out that the culprit was the defendant, who was found to have forged official documents to prove his ownership over the vehicle.
