Tribute to one of the best race directors

As the F1 weekend continues with endless excitement, tributes to the late Charlie Whiting were noticeable around the Bahrain International Circuit perimeter. Charlie Whiting- the notable FIA Formula One Race Director -was a central and inimitable figure in Formula 1, who embodied the ethics and adrenaline spirit of the largest motorsports event of the world.

He passed away after suffering from a pulmonary embolism on March 14, 2019, in Melbourne, Australia, three days before the season-opening Australian Grand Prix of the 2019 Formula One season.

The sudden death of Mr. Whiting leads to a prompted late reshuffle, where the FIA opted to split the senior Formula 1 race official roles for this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix. The F1 governing body announced Michael Masi – who has served as the steward at Formula One- as the race director in Bahrain. Speaking to Daily Tribune, a team member for McLaren stated, “There has definitely been a massive void left by the legend.

“He gave F1 its strong standing and his passion for the motorsports resonated every F1 season, since him taking the reigns as the FIA Director and Safety Delegate in 1997. “He will be missed and remembered at every Grand Prix.”
