Sexagenarian jailed for forging wife’s signature

The First High Criminal Court has sentenced a Bahraini man to five years of imprisonment after he forged his wife’s signature in official documents to sell their house back in 2015. The details of the case showed that the man had abandoned his wife and children, and married another woman. Then, the man decided to sell his house, which he received years ago as part of one of the Government housing projects.

However, he was told by the Ministry of Housing that the approval of both wives is necessary to permit him to sell the house, where the first wife and children are residing. With the help of an unidentified veiled woman, who the defendant produced in front of the ministry official as his first wife, the sexagenarian got the official documents signed and cleared, according to prosecutors. In the year 2016, the first wife and her children were shocked to know that her husband had sold the house without her permission while they were still living there.

The defendant’s son filed a lawsuit against his father accusing him of forging his mother’s (defendant’s first wife) signature in official documents so he could sell the house. The Civil Court revoked the contract of sale, but the defendant appealed against the verdict and won the case, as the first wife’s signature approving the sale was provided.
