Asians jailed for forcing woman into prostitution

The High Criminal Court has sentenced two Asian men to 10 years behind bars each for raping an Asian woman and forcing her into prostitution. They were both also fined BD2,000 for their crime and will be deported permanently from Bahrain once they serve their jail terms.

The victim, also an Asian national, is said to have been lured to arrive in the Kingdom after accepting a fake job opportunity to work as a maid, offered to her by the first defendant. Upon her arrival, he received her and took her to an apartment, where she was kept in custody. He also forcefully snatched her phone to deny her from reaching anybody for help. Speaking about her ordeal, she said:

“He would also mix any drink given to me with alcohol so that I lose my conscious. “He invited many men to my apartment and he was getting money from them. I was powerless,” the victim told prosecutors. According to court files, the first defendant then sold the victim to the second defendant, who continued exploiting her.

However, the victim finally managed to escape her ordeal by stealing the second defendant’s phone and informing her country’s embassy in Bahrain.
