‘Select Family Physician Initiative’ a big success

The registrations for ‘Select Family Physician Initiative’ closed yesterday after receiving 83,175 applications. The initiative saw a great response as thousands of citizens registered with the Ministry of Health for the programme. The initiative allows citizens to select a family physician.

Once chosen, the selected general practitioner would be available to keep a record of the patient’s medical history and will continue to treat him/her in case of any follow-up appointments. The doctor is expected to be able to give a more personalized treatment and keep a closer eye on the patient, which may not have been possible with the old system where doctors are randomly assigned.

The National Bank of Bahrain Health Centre in Dair marked the highest percentage of the total number of registrations with 62 percent.

Eight health centers are part of the initiative including Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait Health Centre in Hidd, National Bank of Bahrain Health Centre in Al Dair, Bu Maher Health Centre, Shaikh Sabah Al Salem Health Centre, Jedhafas Health Centre, Shaikh Jaber Health Centre, Budaiya Health Centre, and Hamad Town Health Centre.
